چکیده

The paper proposes a simple method to determine the 3-D location and shape parameters of a right circular cone using structured lights. A vital concept in the proposed method is to convert the complex curved stripe pattern into an equivalent, but simpler, linear stripe pattern. The conic surface patch lying between two visible silhouette edges is replaced by the plane defined by the two silhouette edges that cut the cone. The appropriate geometric models are given to compute the cone axis and shape parameters representing the height of the cone and the radius of the cone base. For successful application of the proposed measurement method, the sensing environment must be in a proper geometric configuration such that the required cone cutting plane and the two silhouette edges can be constructed. It is pointed out that in terms of a Gaussian sphere representation, there always exists such a right geometric configuration for the cone measurement. Experimental results are given for the measurement of three cones of different sizes. The results show that the method is reasonably accurate and robust against noise in the extracted stripe data.

Faster than the eye can see: blue cones respond to rapid flicker.

Flickering lights that are detected by the blue cones of the human visual system fuse to yield a steady sensation at much lower rates of flicker than do lights that are detected by the red or green cones. Yet, although blue-cone-detected lights flickering at 30-40 Hz appear to be steady, they are still able to interact with red- or green-cone-detected flickering lights to produce clearly detect...

Reconstruction of 3D models from specular motion using circular lights

This work generalizes a shape recovery method for specular surJaces. We have used linear lights that generate planes of ray to highlight a rotating object so that its specular su$aces m computed from continuous images. By setting lights properly, shape at each rotation plane can be measured and a 30 graphics model can be subsequently reconstructed. In this paper, we extend our lights to circula...

Improving 3-D Imaging Breast Cancer Diagnosis Systems Using a New Method for Placement of Near-Infrared Sources and Detectors

The objective of this research was to improve 3-D imaging system by near-infrared light emission in breast tissue to achieve a more accurate diagnosis of tumor. The results of repeated experiments in this research have shown that with this imaging system, a more accurate diagnosis of abnormal area depends on the location of the sources and detectors. Therefore, an optimal location model has bee...

Design Criteria, Applicability and Specifications of Visual Aids to Navigation Signs Used in Ports and Waterways (Case Study of Siraf Pars Service Port and Lavan Oil Terminal)

Due to the range of hazards threatening the navigation of vessels such as collisions with other passing vessels, collisions with structures such as breakwaters, and collisions with the bottom of vessels with the seabed, the design and use of fixed and floating signs should be considered. These signs, in addition to daytime operation, should also be equipped with portable lights to navigate duri...
